Geneva (#3) beat Brighton (#2) 17-6 and Waterloo (#3) beat Aquinas (#2) in the B/C tournament. In the Class A bracket, all of the higher seeded teams won, setting up the semi final round on Tuesday at Aquinas (Class A) and Irondequoit (Class B/C).

The County coaches recently announced the list of all stars for 2005. Pittsford attackman,Jake Boyce, Penfield midfielderMike Thon and Webster Schroeder midfielder,Mike Catalino were named to the All America team. Brighton senior attackman,James Ryan was named Academic All American.

# 1630  Saturday: Last Weekend in Regular

It was the last weekend in the regular season and many games were played early to accommodate preparations for proms and balls. Pittsford nearly spoiled Penfield's undefeated season for the second year in a row. Schroeder won a big win against Amherst of Section Six and Brighton had a close win with Churchville-Chili. Meanwhile, Hilton and Spencerport combined for 32 goals in their game.

Fairport won another close one, this time against Rush-Henrietta, Geneva was the winner against Victor, Spencerport won a close one against Churchville-Chili and McQuaid Jesuit won their last GRALL contest, making them Co-Champions with Aquinas. Schroeder took a win from Irondequoit and five other games were played today.

# 1622  Thursday: HFL, McQuaid Jesuit, Victor, Pittsford

The rematch of HF-L and Brighton drew attention tonight and the Cougars again were the victors, but in a closer game than back in early April. McQuaid Jesuit won another game by a single goal, as did Victor in their game with Waterloo. Canandaigua's Head Coach John Johnson won his 350th game. Ten other games were played in Section Five on Thursday.

# 1599  Saturday: Beautiful Weather

Mid 50 degree weather and bright sunshine dominated and the fans were winners today as 12 games were played by Section Five teams. Waterloo won another OT game in their 9-8 win over Waterloo. Newark played Midlakes to an 8-6 win and Aquinas won a close game with McQuaid Jesuit on their new turf field.

Honeoye Falls-Lima improved their record to 4-0 with a night game win at host Brighton, 17-5. After building a 5-3 lead in the first, the Cougars exploded in the second with 8 goals to Brighton's 1 to end the half up 13-3. Seven different players contributed to the 17 goals, 11 of which were assisted (65%).

Livonia increased their record to one win one loss with a thrilling 11-10 sudden victory double overtime win over Haverling at Saunders field. The winning goal was scored on an isolation play by senior midfielder Josh Hendrickson with 2:27 left in the second overtime period.

Because of the hospitality of Irondequoit High School and Nazareth College, seven games were played on synthetic turf today that probably would not have been played on home field grass. As a result more than 350 players and their fans enjoyed a cold but clear and sunny day with a number of great opening day efforts.

# 1568  Section Five All Tournament Team Selections- 2004

The 2004 Section Five Tournaments are over and the Champions have been determined. An All-Tournament Team is selected for each Class Tournament. The MVP for Class A was junior attackman, Aaron Manzer of Canandaigua. In Class B the MVP was Brighton's, junior attackman, Mike Ryerson. In Class C the MVP was senior attackman, Kyle Eakens of Penn Yan.

This was the last chance for regular season games in Section Five. Eleven games were scheduled under the cold and rain of upstate New York. Canandaigua won big at home and maintained their undefeated season. Penfield lost to host Pittsford and dropped to 15-1.

Canandaigua and Penfield remained undefeated in Section Five and are among only seven teams statewide to have perfect records. Penfield had a close call with a comeback win against host Fairport, 9-8, and Canandaigua had no trouble in their 19-7 victory over Newark. Livonia had an overtime win against McQuaid Jesuit as they won 5-4.

Canandaigua and Penfield remained undefeated in Section Five and are among only seven teams statewide to have perfect records. Canandaigua beat Victor 11-3 and Penfield broke a 6-6 half-time tie with five third quarter goals to beat Webster Schroeder, 13-7.

# 1548  Thursday: Brighton and Fairport Pull Upsets

Brighton, seeded number 4th in Class B beat the top seed, Honeoye Falls, 15-11 in the semi finals, and Fairport (#5) beat Pittsford (#4), 11-6 in the Class A quarter finals and the rest of the seeds won out. Geneva (#3) looked like they would upset Waterloo (#2) as they led 8-1 when the game was halted for lightning with about nine minutes left in the game. That game will be finished on Friday (time and place TBD).

It cost Livonia a long bus ride for a 17 minute "game" as they finished yesterday's game at Haverling which was halted at 12-4 in the third quarter due to an electrical storm.

# 1545  Tuesday: Out Brackets and Quarters

Rush-Henrietta (#9) won its first sectional game in many years as they beat host McQuaid Jesuit (#8) 7-5 behind the efforts of senior middie, Joe Malach (2g-2a) and senior attackman, Tyler Allen (2g). In the game that featured strong defensive play by both teams, the Royal Comets took a 6-1 lead into the half. Junior goalie, James Lally recorded 16 saves for R-H.

 St. John Fisher College. Brighton held the number four position entering the Class B Tournament and after beating the top seed, HFL 15-11 on Thursday, the Barons used an overtime goal by MVP and junior attackman, Mike Ryerson to win their first Section Five Class B Championship, 6-5.

Two games were cancelled, but five games were on in the rain on Tuesday. Canandaigua and Fairport moved their game to Hobart College and the Braves (4-0) remained undefeated with their 10-7 win over Fairport.Senior Midfielder, Mike Pane led the effort with 4g along with junior attackmen, Chris Mulheron (2g-1a) and Brian Hadsell (2g). Defensive standouts were senior Brian McWilliams and junior Mike Seron. Sophomore goalie, Dan Serafine made 9 saves for Canandaigua.

Pittsford's field was not ready, so the Panthers traveled to Irondequoit for their first outing under new Coach Carmine Peluso. The first half looked close as Pittsford took a 7-6 lead at the break, but the Eagles reorganized and held the Panthers scoreless from then on while scoring five of their own. Senior Jon Timkey scored 5g-1a and Corey Bottinglier added two more goals for Irondequoit (2-0). Junior attackman, Jake Boyce scored 4g for Pittsford (0-1).

The Monroe County coaches recently announced the list of all stars for 2002. Irondequoit and Fairport tied for the County title this year and combined for 12 first team players. Joe Walters (Attack-Irondequoit) was selected the All American and Chris Renzi (Midfielder-Fairport) was the alternate.
